How thin would you be if you had to tear open a mouth every time you wanted to eat?

Meet hydra, this freshwater animal does exactly that.  Scientists from the University of California published a paper showing that hydra uses tentacles to bring food near its body and then “tears” open skin to consume the food.  Once the Hydra has consumed the food its mouth disappears, similar to a wound healing.

The freshwater hydra rips open and heals its skin every time it needs to feed.  I don’t know about you, but even liposuction sounds mildly pleasant now.
